My Own Reflections

History was never one of my best subjects. I didn't make A's in school, particularly in History. It wasn't until my grandmother, Lula French, began telling me about her first experiences during major events that I felt a spark of interest in the subject. She helped me to see that the generations before mine have seen much of the worlds history take place. Each generation had significant eras that have led to important events in history. Many of the everyday things we take advantage of in our daily lives were considered miraculous by our mothers generation. She watched the first flight to the moon, the birth of television, and the death of President Kennedy. My grandmother experienced two world wars, a world-wide flu epidemic, the birth of radio, and saw her first airplaine.
As I grew older, the stories my grandparents told me became more interesting historically. If they had seen so much history in their lives, what about my great-grandparents and beyond? Having been blessed with a vivid imagination I've often wondered about my ancestors places in history and their involvement in the shaping of historical events of their time. What part did they play in their own small corner of the world? What hardships did they endure? Did they fight in the American Revolution? The Civil War? How did these events affect their lives and their families?
I started searching for family records at the WV State Archives in Charleston in 1985. In my search I discovered that many of our families had already been traced by other researchers. All I had to do was prove my own direct relation to the family. Along the way I learned a lot about most of the families that were not part of my direct ancestry. This is called cluster genealogy. Tracing brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, sometimes an entire community.
It was strange for me to discover that all the historical situations I questioned and learned about in school, were actual events that my ancestors played part in. From the colony at Jamestown, to the formation of a community, to the creation of a state, to the birth of a nation, our ancestors were in the midst of political and military power in Colonial America. Many of their descendants are named in prominent positions of both factions. From "the shot heard round the world", to the last cannon fired in the Civil War, to the expansion westward, our ancestors have left a heritage of history that I am very proud to claim as my own.
I would like to thank the many "cousins" I've met during my research. Those I've met at court houses, and the arvices in Charleston. Also, those I've met on the internet. I've corresponded with cousins in California, Washington State, Texas, Virginia, South Caroline, Georgia, and even England. You'd be surprised how many descendants our ancestors have left. Much of the information in my database has been provided by my internet family.
Enjoy your ancestry.

Foreword

Some of this ancestry has not been absolutely proven. Much of the source information comes from other individuals who "claim" to have proof but as of yet have not given me documentation to support these claims. Many other researchers have applied these individual's as sources themselves..They are included in this genealogy source file. Please be aware I am currently in the process of trying to verify these claims.
Therefore some of the ancestry you read in this genealogy may not be correct..It is still a work in progress.
Enjoy and be Proud.
